Plaza Moyua

Architect:  J. L. Salinas

Year:  1942

Style:  Formalism (French gardens)

Jose Luis Salinas was commissioned this roundabout plaza to be located right in the centre of the new city grid. The architect designed an elliptical shape plaza, and lowered its level to let the user enjoy the gardens and to help the sensation of being farther from city traffic than one really is.

When Metro (the subway) was built, the son of the first architect, Manuel Salinas, was commissioned its reform. He decided to keep his father’s original design.

Some of the most important buildings in the city extension of Bilbao are located around Plaza Moyua.
