Saint Blaise’s Day (February 3rd)

Some traditions take place this day: people buy blessed marshmallow sweets and laces (which are used as collars) in order to protect their throats. The laces have to be worn for nine days and then burnt to achieve a whole year protection.

Celebrations take place during the whole day around Saint Nichol’s Church, by the Arenal.

It is remarkable that besides blessing the sweets or the laces, in the last years it is becoming usual to ask for blessing for pets or other objects.
