Saint Thomas’ day (December 21st)
This day a traditional market occupies the “Arenal” area. Farmers from all around the region come to Bilbao and sell their high quality gastronomy products. This tradition is joined to Christmas time.
People like gathering around the area not only to buy the products (local wines, cheeses, vegetables, basque cakes, pork meats, turkeys…), but to taste other traditional flavours such as “talo” (kind of a corn pancake, usually served with pork meat) and to drink cider or local wine (txakoli) as well.
It is a nice day to hang around the Old Quarter and Arenal, from early in the morning until late evening.
