Easter Week (March-April)
Traditional processions take place everyday in Bilbao during the whole week, but the most interesting one is the Procession of the Nazarene, on Monday night. This procession departs from a church by Zabalburu Square in the evening, and crosses one of the most popular neighbourhoods (Bilbao La Vieja), where people show up from the balconies and sing and praise Jesus.
A different one is the Procession of Silence, in the Old Quarter, which takes place really early on Friday morning (around 5:30). This procession is completed in absolute silence, and only lightened by candles.
From an artistic point of view, some of the sculptures are really remarkable, such as the one of the Christ of the Cross by Juan de Mesa (1615), which can be seen on Friday afternoon.
